Lil Wayne sells masters for $100 million? - GENIUS
@LilWayne sold his masters for $100 million and the internet seems to think it was a bad move because of the conversation about TODAY’s artists retaining theor masters. But really this was a genius move, hear me out: Maybe Lil Wayne is rich and he sold it off because the shelf life of the albums wont allow him to make another 100 mill because the music is so old. It takes A LOT of streams to make $100 million. Plus, most rappers on a major label get less than 40% because of so many investors and paying for marketing labor up front not to mention recouping your advance, it would have taken lil wayne about 10 to 20 years to make 100 mill off his old catalog from just streaming maybe he will invest the 100 or part of it into another business hopefully. Making money in the music business can be difficult. 1 million spotify streams is only $3900, 1 milion on apple is 4100, 1million on youtube is $600. Tidal pays 28k for 1 million but has the smalles amount of users. so imagiune making 15%-40% of $3900 for 1 million streams and thats AFTER you have to pay for marketing, advertising, advance recouping and etc. The whole “keep your masters and make money from streaming” idea applies to new artists who need to be patient while raising one’s value I would imagine a portion of what was made from this deal will fund Weezy’s federal gun case where he is currently facing 10 years. Not to mention we’re talking about lil wayne who was already in a legal battle over an unfair record deal. First UMG gets the money and takes a cut then cash money gets the money and take a cut then it finally gets to Young Money (lil wayne) who has to pay for the actual album production, clearances, marketing, merchandise, travel, day to day living etc. He cant make an album for free and he has to eat every day. With this laid out, Its safe to say Lil Wayne selling his master’s for $100Mill was a GENIUS move.Especially because Lil Wayne is still able to create new content, retain the masters, exploit the value, then rinse and repeat ORIGINAL ARTICLE BY: Dope Plugs Music Group Dope Plugs Music Group https://www.facebook.com/DopePlugsMusic/ https://www.instagram.com/dopeplugsmusic/ https://twitter.com/DopePlugs_MGMT https://soundcloud.com/dope-plugs https://open.spotify.com/user/jfmqo0g8mtgg928lkoos1g3uj?si=Am3eqBz3Rzynzh9pf9WmSA https://www.spinrilla.com/thedopeplugs https://audiomack.com/artist/dope-plugs https://mymixtapez.com/artist/43622
